AORTIC VALVE SURGERY
An aortic valve replacement is a type of open heart surgery used to treat narrow or leaky aortic valve.
The aortic valve controls the blood flow from the heart to the rest of the body.
Aortic valve replacement involves removing a faulty or damaged valve and implanting a valve prosthesis that can be made of alloy containing carbon or animal tissue.
The operation can take up to 3 - 4 hours under general anesthesia with typically 7 - 10 days of in-hospital stay.
