AORTIC VALVE SURGERY
An aortic valve replacement is a type of open heart surgery used to treat narrow or leaky aortic valve.
The aortic valve controls the flow of blood out from the heart to the rest of the body.
An aortic valve replacement involves removing a faulty or damaged valve and implanting a valve prosthesis that can be made of alloy containing carbon or animal tissue.
The operation typically takes 3 to 4 hours under general anesthesia with approx one week of in-hospital stay.
