MITRAL VALVE SURGERY
Mitral valve surgery aims to preserve but repair your native valve. However in certain cases valve replacement would be the only option. The mitral valve is located between two heart chambers - the left atrium and left ventricle. It directs the blood to move in one direction through the heart to the aorta and this way to reach your organs. Common reasons for mitral surgery can be leaky or narrow mitral valve. The procedure typically takes 3 to 4 hours under general anesthesia with approx one week of in-hospital recovery.
