MITRAL VALVE SURGERY

Mitral valve surgery aims to preserve but repair your native valve. However in certain cases valve replacement would be the only option.

The mitral valve is located between two heart chambers - the left atrium and left ventricle. It directs the blood to move in one direction through the heart to the aorta and this way to reach your organs.

The most common reason for having a mitral valve repair or replacement can be down to a leak or a narrowing in your mitral valve.

The procedure could  take up to 3 - 4 hours under general anesthesia and typically seven - ten days of in-hospital recovery.
